Title: Recurrent Epidemics in the SIR Model
Abstract: In epidemiology, the SIR system of differential equations remains the standard method to model epidemics. Researchers routinely extend the SIR model to account for various phenomena for which the original model cannot account. In this seminar, we will discuss an extension to the SIR model to account for recurrent epidemics such as influenza. This discussion will entail analysis of the two equilibria of the model, as well as estimating the basic reproduction number of this model
