Abstract: In this talk, I introduce and discuss Groebner bases and universal Groebner bases of some ideals generated by minors. I define two families of multigraded ideals which are “dual” to each other and whose generic initial ideals have interesting rigidity properties. For an ideal in one of these families, this rigidity is a useful tool in the study of its universal Groebner bases, as it allows us to deduce properties shared by all its initial ideals. After introducing the tools, I will present some examples of results that we obtain using these ideas. The talk is based on joint work with Aldo Conca and Emanuela De Negri (University of Genoa, Italy).
