Title: A simple dry physics package and its coupling to a dynamically adaptive global atmosphere model
Abstract: Over the years, global climate modelling has advanced, aiming for realistic and precise models by increasing their complexity. However, despite the progress, there are still numerous phenomena that we do not fully comprehend. To build our understanding, simpler models have been used as building blocks, and the climate community has been emphasizing the creation of simple yet realistic models, forming a hierarchy. In this regard, the focus has been on developing simplified physics models for atmospheric global climate models (AGCMs). In this talk, after introducing global climate models, I will discuss a simplified dry physics package for AGCMs, detailing the climate processes, assumptions, and numerical methods employed in the model. These physics models encompass only certain climate processes and require coupling with atmospheric dynamics to simulate a planet's general circulation. Thus, I will also present the coupling of this package with an atmospheric dynamical core.
