Title: An approach to equivariant Poincaré duality
Abstract: Poincaré duality captures the essential (co)homological properties of closed manifolds, and the study of spaces satisfying Poincaré duality is integral to classification techniques, for example surgery theory. This makes an analogous story of Poincaré duality desirable capturing (co)homological properties of closed smooth manifolds with a smooth G-action, where G is a compact Lie group. In my talk, I will present an approach to equivariant Poincaré duality, which has been used to give new proofs of
many classical results on smooth G-manifolds. If time permits, I will also sketch recent applications of the theory to the existence of group actions on aspherical manifolds.
This is based on joint work with Kaif Hillman and Dominik Kirstein.
