Fifth Annual McMaster Industrial Workshop | Registration Open

We are thrilled to announce the 5^th McMaster/Co-operators Problem-Solving Workshop, jointly organized by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at McMaster University (https://www.math.mcmaster.ca/) and Co-operators General Insurance Company (https://www.cooperators.ca/). It will take place in person on Saturday, March 9^th, 2024.

The workshop will gather representatives from industry, academic mathematicians, and undergraduate and graduate students. The main goal is to provide students with an experiential learning opportunity through a concrete real-world problem with real data submitted by the insurance company. Participants will work individually or in study groups (up to 4 students) to solve challenging insurance problems and develop their interpersonal and technical skills (including data science, statistics, optimization, mathematical finance, programming, communication, etc.). Participants will benefit from the availability and support of several professional contacts and resources. This workshop is aimed to be an “incubator” of collaborations that can lead to more long-term and impactful relationships between participants and the industry partner.

The first four editions of the Workshop resulted in many opportunities for participants, such as full-time and part-time jobs, job shadowing, job interviews, and presentations to Co-operators’ managerial teams.

Moreover, Co-operators are currently hiring and actively looking for new talents (co-op and permanent positions) to join their forces for the Actuarial and Business Intelligence teams.

• February 1, 2024: Registration opens
• February 1, 2024: Start of the qualification round
• February 26, 2024: End of Registration and qualification round
• February 28, 2024: Announcement of the finalists and Workshop instructions
• March 9, 2024: Full-day workshop and networking event
• By the end of March 2024: Announcement of the winners and the prizes
