This test is to be written in the BSB
Computer Lab. You may use the software in the course folder, but you
may not import any files on floppy disk or from the network. Other
aids permitted: any calculators and one sheet of notes (8.5" x 11",
one side only).
The data sets will be found in the folder Test #1 on the STAT 3N03 course folder.
Your response to each question should be in the form of a report.
Prepare the report in a word processor, integrating graphics and
discussion. Print out and submit your report at the end of the test
period.
1. To study the protopectin content
of tomatoes during storage, four storage times (0, 7, 14, and 21
days) were selected and samples from 9 lots of tomatoes were
analysed. The file protopectin.txt gives the observed protopectin content,
expressed as hydrochloric acid soluble fraction mg/kg. Does
protopectin content change during storage? What can you say about the
different lots?
2. The file viscosity.txt presents viscosity data from a batch chemical
process at 80 consecutive times. Study the process graphically,
looking for the following features: trend, cyclic effects,
change-points, autocorrelation.
3. The file airpollution.txt gives measurements of wind, solar radiation,
CO, NO, NO2,
O3 and HC recorded at noon in Los Angeles on 42
different days. Discuss any relationships you can find between these
variables.
