- Bensons&Hedges competition (international
fireworks competition). Don't
go there by car, go by bus or the metro (Papineau metro station, then walk
south to Rene-Levesque blvd. or Beaudry metro station then walk south- east to
Rene-Levesque blvd.), or walk from downtown on Rene-Levesque blvd. The music
that is played during the fireworks is simultaneously broadcasted on radio
(check local listings for specific radio station).
- Tour de l'ile bicycle tour (biggest bicycling event in
the world according
to the Guiness Book of Records), starts at the Jeanne-Mance Park, near the
corner of Parc avenue and Mont-Royal blvd. 45000 cyclists participate.
- La Grande Aventure (outdoor show), giant sets and
puppets, computer
graphics and pyrotechnics makes this show special. The big sound and lights
production retraces the adventure of life from the Big Bang to our times. At
the Olympic park (Viau metro station).
- Montreal Grand Prix (formula-1 car race), in June at
Ile Notre-Dame (Ile
Ste-Helene metro station). You better take the metro because there will be a
lot of people and parking is very difficult.
- International Kite exhibition at Verdun park in June,
kite flying from all
over the world.
- Antique Show, around June at Place Bonaventure
(Bonaventure metro station).
- Le Festival du nouveau cinema et video (new cimema and
video festival),
beginning of June.
- The Fringe Festival (alternative english theather
festival), mid-June. -
Mondial de la biere (beer tasting festival), mid-June.
- Vente de trottoir-St-Laurent, the St-Laurent blvd. is
closed to cars to
allow merchants to open shop on the sidewalks. mid-June. - St-Jean-Baptiste
(Fete Nationale), June 24.
- Festival
international de jazz de Montreal, 10 days of shows from June
29 to July 9th 1995,
there are free outdoor shows (about 300 free shows!) and activities (they take
place around Place des Arts). There are also lot's of indoor shows at the Place
des Arts, the Spectrum and the Gesu theater. The complete schedule of outdoor
and indoor shows are available on site (around the Place des Arts Place des
Arts metro station).
- Canada day (July 1st).
- Les Bouquinistes (outdoor book sale) at the old port,
the set-up is pretty
much like the book salespeople around the Seine in Paris.
- Festival Nuits d'Afrique (african music, after the
Jazz festival) at club
Balattou on St-Laurent (4372 St-Laurent) and at Club Soda on Park Ave., there
will be free outdoor shows at the Berri square (Berri metro station) and on
St-Laurent blvd (St-Laurent metro station, then take the 55 bus north until you
get to the club Balattou).
- Just for Laughs Festival (10 days) end of July, the
outdoor activities
are in the old port (Jacques-Cartier pier), the galas (big shows) are at the
Theatre St-Denis on St-Denis street, and the smaller shows are at Club Soda on
Parc ave. and at different clubs are town.
- Francofolies (francophone music from around the
world), there will be
free outdoor shows around Place des Arts.
