Title: The intermediate value theorem for matrix ultraproducts
Abstract: A longstanding open problem in continuous model theory revolves around the theories of matrix ultraproducts treated as tracial von Neumann algebras. One of the few results on this topic is that there is either one such theory or continuum many. I will sketch the proof and indicate how this proof can be generalized to other situations involving the ultraproduct.
