The Research Data Centre Program a Canadian
Social Science Initiative.
ABSTRACT:
The Research Data Centre (RDC) program evolved out of a joint Social Science
and Humanities Research Council and Statistics Canada Task force aimed at
promoting social science research and training. RDCs provide researchers
with access to confidential micro-data for the purpose of generating and
disseminating quality social science research to the policy community and to
the Canadian public. Several longitudinal surveys are available through
this program. Research interests and projects in the McMaster RDC are as
varied as the researchers themselves.
About the Speaker
James Chowhan did his graduate work in Economics at McMaster University. He
entered the public service with Statistics Canada in 2000 in the
Prices Division where he worked on Spatial Housing Indexes for the Consumer
Price Index. He then moved
to the Income and Expenditure Accounts Division (worked on Voluntary Sector
Satellite Account) and finally to the Micro Economic Analysis Division.
In Micro Economic Analysis Division his research focused on the impact of
self-employment on aggregate business sector labour productivity. James is
now with the Research Data Centre Program at the McMaster RDC, where he
has been continuing his research in the area of self-employment. Further, he
has extended his research interests to look at training in the high-tech
economy and the role of socio-economic status on the relationship between
television viewing and child outcomes.
