11 April 2006: Marks for all tests and quizzes, with all corrections
received up until April 11 are posted
here.
6 April 2006: The math help centre will continue to run until the final exam (on April 17 at 2pm). Dr. Ghioca and Dr. Unlu are holding their regular office hours during the exam period. Dr Haskell will have office hours during the week of April 10 at the following times: M12:30-14:00, T13:00-14:30, W12:30-14:30.
3 April 2006: The material for the final exam is everything
covered during the course. Here is an overview of what we have (and
have not) done:
Chapter 6: 6.2 (omit examples 7,8,9), 6.5
Chapter 7: 7.1 (you do not need to memorise the formula of example 6),
7.2, 7.3 (not the examples involving hyperbolic functions), 7.4
(not Case IV), 7.5, 7.8 (omit the comparison test)
Chapter 9: 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 (omit orthogonal trajectories and mixing
problems), 9.5
Chapter 10: 10.1 (omit families of parametric curves), 10.2 (omit
surface area), 10.3, 10.4
Chapter 11: 11.1 (omit p.708 to end), 11.2, 11.8, 11.9, 11.10 (omit
multiplication and division of power series), 11.11, 17.4. As for
Midterm 2, all determination of radius of convergence is done by
referring to known series, or using the size of the remainder term. You
do not need to know the ratio test.
Chapter 14: 14.1, 14.2, 14.3 (omit Cobb-Douglas function), 14.4 (omit
differentials), 14.5 (omit example 4 to end)14.7.

for reference. Notice that you MAY NOT bring this sheet into the exam.
It will be provided for you. It is posted here only so that you
know which formulae you do not need to memorise.
31 March 2006: Practice problems for the final are posted here.
As always, solutions will not be posted. You will learn more from the
problems by working them out, thinking how to check the answer
yourself, and discussing your solutions with your TA or instructor,
than by simply reading a solution.
31 March 2006: Updated marks for test 2, quizzes 1-7, with excused
absences received as of March 30, are attached here.
Any corrections to these marks must be received by the LAST DAY OF
CLASSES.
31 March 2006: Some clarification of the procedure for assigning the final grades seems in order. The marks for Test 2 will not be adjusted. All the term marks, weighted according to the original formula (6 best quizzes worth 10%, test 1 worth 20%, test 2 worth 20%, final worth 50%) will be added together. (For those with an excused absence from one of the tests, the weight will be redistributed between the other three parts proportionally. There are no excused absences from quizzes.) These marks will then be curved, if necessary, to give a mark which matches the standard McMaster grading scale. There will not be an option of 100% final. The curving of the marks at the end will adjust for any discrepancies from the second test, while preserving relative standing.
25 March 2006: Test 2 marks for all tutorials are now in, as are quizzes 1-7. Please check your marks and notify your instructor of any discrepancies.
25 March 2006: The topic for this week's quiz has been changed. See the calendar below.
22 March 2006: The instructors offer the following guidelines for
interpreting the marks on the second midterm. Note that this is only a
guideline, not a promise of your final mark. You can use this to get an
idea of what the second midterm means towards your overall mark for the
course. Please talk to any of us if you have concerns.
0-18: F
19-22: D+/-
23-27: C+/-
28-35: B+/-
36-50: A+/-
20 March 2006: Test 2 marks are now available for all tutorials except 6, 9, 11, 14. The average so far is 23/50. As was remarked in lectures, we do not plan to fail more than half of the class. Nevertheless, you should take these marks as a warning of what you do not know. The test may have been too long, but each individual question was not too hard. The material from this test will also be on the final exam. Talk to your instructor in office hours, talk with your TA, talk to each other. Work out what you did not understand from this exam, and make sure that you do understand it for the final.
17 March 2006: Test 2 solutions are now available. Note that there is a small mistake in the solution to the last problem - a factor of 1/90 was lost in the integration. Marks should be available on Monday, and tests will be returned in tutorial during the week of March 19.
14 March 2006: Someone left a backpack in the test room last night. It is in Dr. Haskell's office - HH316.
8 March 2005: Test 2 seating arrangements are posted at the bottom of the page. Note that this is not exactly the same as test 1, so please read it carefully. Homeworks for Chapter 10 are now posted on the calendar.
3 March 2006: The next midterm is on Monday, March 13, at 6:45 pm. Anyone who has a scheduled conflict should inform their instructor and arrange to take the test at the make-up time. Rooms will be posted by tutorial as for the last test. Information on the material covered in the test can be found here. Practice problems are here.
28 February 2006: There was a mistake in the marks spreadsheet, which affected the Quiz 1 marks for students in tutorials 1-5. This is now corrected in the file linked below. Also, I had forgotten to sort by ID number. You should now find it easier to find your marks!

5 February 2006: there is a typo on the sample problems posted on 30
January. The correct answer for the multiple choice problem is not
among those listed. The correct answer is b), once the limits of
integration have been changed from (0,1) to (1,4).
