Instructions for Authors to Communications in Statistics –

Submission of Manuscripts

All manuscripts should be submitted to Communications in Statistics via the Journal's online web-based Scholar One Manuscript Central submission system at the following link: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lsta (Theory and Methods); http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lssp (Simulation and Computation) http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ucas (Case Studies, Data Analysis and Applications). Authors are responsible for verifying all files have uploaded correctly.

After you have logged in, click the “Submit a Manuscript” link in the menu bar. Enter data and answer questions as prompted.

Click on the “Next” button on each screen to save your work and advance to the next screen. Your will be prompted to upload your files: Click on the “Browse” button and locate the file on your computer. Select the description of the file in the drop down next to the Browse button. When you have selected all files you wish to upload, click the “Upload” button. NOTE: you have a limit of combined for all files you upload.  Review your submission (in both PDF and HTML formats) before sending to the Editors.  Click the “Submit” button when you are done reviewing.

You may stop a submission at any phase and save it to submit later.  After submission, you will receive a confirmation via e-mail.  You can also log-on to Manuscript Central any time to check the status of your manuscript.  You will receive an e-mail once a decision has been made on your manuscript.

Manuscripts should be prepared using TeX/LaTeX  or MS Word.  Adobe PDF versions must also be submitted if manuscripts are prepared using TeX/LaTeX. Normally manuscripts are expected not to exceed 25 double-spaces pages including text, tables, figures and bibliography. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. 

Acknowledgment of receipt of the manuscript by Manuscript Central will be sent to the corresponding author, including an assigned manuscript number that should be included in all subsequent correspondence. Revised manuscripts should be submitted via Scholar One Manuscript Central’s Author Center to ensure that they are linked to the original submission. It is also necessary to attach a separate file in which a point-by-point explanation is given to the specific points/questions raised by the referee and the corresponding changes made in the revised version.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to Taylor & Francis.

Manuscript Style

Manuscripts must be in English. Manuscripts should be typed single-sided, with double-spacing and margins of at least one inch on all sides. Pages should be numbered consecutively and the manuscript should contain the following elements: Title Page. The first page should include the title of the article, the complete names and institutional affiliations of all authors. As separate items, list the complete name and address of the corresponding author and provide a short title to be used as a running head (not to exceed 50 characters). Authors should continue to show the original date of receipt (as indicated by the Editor) on the title page of revised manuscripts. Abstract. Each article should be prefaced by a brief abstract (less than 200 words). Text. The text should be organized clearly and headings and subheadings should be indicated. All mathematical symbols and Greek letters must be identified clearly. Subscripts and superscripts should be set off clearly and a zero should precede all decimal points. Principal equations should be displayed on separate lines and the following sequence of parentheses should be used: )]}. Equation numbers should be given in parentheses at the right-hand margin. Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digitals files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

MS Word submissions: Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated.

References

Cite in the text by author and date (Smith, 1983).  Prepare reference list in accordance with the APA Publications Manual, 4th ed. Examples:

Journal: Kay, R. (1986). A Markov model of analyzing cancer markers and disease state in survival studies. Biometrics 42:855—871.

Book: Namboordiri, K. Suchindran, C.M. (1987). Life Table Techniques and Their Applications. New York: Academic Press.

Contribution to a Book: Girardin, V. (2004). On the different extensions of the ergodic theorem of information theory. In: Glaz, J. Gzyl, H. ed., Applied Probability—Recent Advances. Kluwer.

Please list the references in a section at the end of the article, in alphabetical order. Footnotes should not be included in the list of references or elsewhere in the text.

Web Review Process

Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author using Taylor & Francis’ EProof system.  It is imperative that the proofs are carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.  Failing to do so may result in withholding of publication of the paper.

Reprints

The corresponding author of each article will receive a .pdf file of the final print form of the article.  Offprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis using the offprint link included with page proofs.  Up to 10 issue copies may also be ordered.  If offprints are not ordered by the required date, reprint pricing goes into effect, and issue copies may not be ordered.
